1969 Jaguar E-Type
This car was gifted to twin brothers for their 16th birthday in 1989 by their father, a Jaguar collector in Plano, TX. He purchased the car in 1988 and had the car repainted and the interior redone prior to presenting it to his sons. The original color was green; however, the car was yellow with tan interior when he bought it. The brothers decided they wanted the car white with black interior, so it was redone to their choice. The lacquer paint used was a correct Jaguar color. In 1994 the engine was rebuilt and the engine compartment painted to match the car. Since 1994, the car has traveled less than 3500 miles and the current odometer reading of just over 25,000 miles is believed to be correct.
When the E Type was introduced in 1961, Enzo Ferrari praised it as 'the most beautiful car ever made.' The London Telegraph agreed in 2008 ranking the E Type as number one on its list of "100 most beautiful cars." Soon after the car's debut one was placed into the Museum of Modem Art where it remains in the collection today.
The coupe originally sold for $5895. The straight six twin overhead cam engine was the same type that gave Jaguar five victories at Le Mans in the 50s. The 1961 edition had 265 horsepower allowing the car a top speed of 150 mph, making it at the time the fastest production car in the world. Of the 72,520 E Types produced from 1961 -1975, just under 44,000 came to the U.S. This series 2 car is one of 4,855 coupes built from August 1968 – October 1970.
